Google is doubling down on Alabama, pledging $1.5 billion between 2026 and 2027 to enlarge its data-center campus in Jackson County. The facility, which opened in 2019 on the site of a former manufacturing plant, will gain new buildings, upgraded power and cooling systems, and faster fiber links to Google’s global network.

A second wave of local impact

The cash infusion is expected to create hundreds of construction and operations jobs, complementing the hundreds already on site. Local leaders highlight plans for workforce training programs tied to the expansion, aiming to align new hires with evolving data-center roles. Jackson County officials also anticipate upgrades to roads and utility grids to handle the added load.

Cloud capacity for the Southeast

Google frames the expansion as a strategic move to meet rising demand for cloud services in the U.S. Southeast. By adding capacity near Atlanta and Nashville, the company says it can cut latency for customers across the region while reinforcing the resilience of its infrastructure. The project follows earlier investments in similar campuses in South Carolina and Tennessee.
