A Layer Over Existing Tools, Not a New Database
Computer for Counsel is not designed to replace legal research platforms like Westlaw or LexisNexis. Instead, it acts as a research, drafting, and workflow layer that reasons across the open web, firm systems, and specialized legal sources. The system breaks down legal tasks into subtasks, routes each to an appropriate AI model and data source, and assembles the results into briefs, memos, or deal summaries. Every output includes source citations, allowing attorneys to verify references before using them in client work.
Multi-Model Orchestration with Open Standards
The platform draws on more than 20 frontier AI models, automatically selecting the best model for each subtask. Research, reasoning, and contract work can each leverage different models, and Perplexity maintains the model pool through ongoing evaluation. Connectors run on the open Model Context Protocol (MCP), enabling integration with over 400 tools including Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and legal-specific systems such as Clio, NetDocuments, and Box.
Grounded in Premium Legal Sources
Computer for Counsel pulls from premium legal sources like Midpage for U.S. case law, statutes, regulations, and a citator to confirm whether a case remains valid. Other integrations include Deel for compliance data, LegalZoom for contract templates, and DeepJudge for institutional intelligence grounded in a firm’s prior work. Administrators can also add custom MCP connectors for internal systems, ensuring the platform adapts to existing firm workflows rather than imposing new ones.
